LG Top Load Washer Error Code E6 – How To Fix?

My LG top loading washing machine shows E6 error code. The washing machine will not run or wash on any cycle. Washer will not spin or work at all. Does the error code or fault code identify which part is bad? We need the correct procedure to clear the error code E6. If this is a DIY job, can you list the parts needed or a quick fix for the top loading LG washer. I would prefer to fix it myself as right now I am unable to afford a new one.

LG Top Load Washer Error Code E6 - How To FixLG Top Load Washer Error Code E6 – How To Fix

LG Top Load Washer Error Code E6 = MOTOR HAS OVERHEATED/FAILED – CLUTCH MALFUNCTION/ITEM STUCK

Most common fast fix for LG error E6:
An item such as a coin or paperclip has jammed in the washer between the drum and the pulsator, remove the item.
OR
The motor has overheated and you simply need to wait until it cools down.

If there is an item jammed in the washing machine drum:
Check with flashlight to see if there is anything jammed in the drum and preventing it from spinning freely.
If you find a coin or other object that is jamming the drum, remove it with a pair of pliers and test the washer.

If the LG washer error code E6 means the motor has overheated, simply wait an hour or so for it to cool down and try doing a test wash cycle to see if the problem was only an overheated motor.
If the washer has no objects jamming it or the motor has not overheated, you will need to troubleshoot if either the clutch or motor has a fault. Depending on your LG model number, this may be one part or two = Clutch Motor Assembly or Motor and Clutch.

The E6 error is telling you that the clutch is causing the error or fault.
This fault can happen if a paperclip, nail, coin, or a different object is jammed in between the tub and pulsator.

To clear the E6 error code on a top load LG washer:

  1. Take out all clothing or towels from the washer.
  2. Use a flashlight or torch and visually check the bottom of the washer drum.
  3. Look for the seam that is between the pulsator and the drum.
  4. Check to see if objects are jammed in the seam and causing the washer to not spin.
  5. Many times there will be a nail, a coin, or paperclip jammed in between them.
  6. If you see an object jammed between the drum and pulsator, remove it with a tool such as a pair of pliers or needle nose.
  7. Once the object is removed, do a test wash to see if the washer is now working and the error code is cleared.

  2. Have a challenge with my LG washing machine keeps popping the E6 error code when it’s supposed to spin.

  3. I’m having the same issues with this E6 Error code, I’ve checked the agitator and everything with it nothing is jammed I’ve reset it three times. I just had the technician replace the control panel as he said that was bad, I don’t know what else to do I’ve read all the directions and I reset it.

  4. I just had the motor and clutch changed on my LG washer and the E error code persists.
By the looks of it nobody has an answer.
I spent an hour on the phone with LG and they don’t know the answer.

  5. I replaced the clutch. Still getting E6. Run it in service mode and it will spin fine. Just now ordered a clutch motor. $220 so far. Check back in 2 days and I’ll tell you if the clutch motor fixes the problem. Next step would be the main PCB replacement. That dude will cost another $188. I’m too far into it now to replace the washer.

  6. E6 error code. Replaced the clutch. Ran it in service mode and it will spin fine. Try running in regular mode and the error reappears.

  7. Mr. Green;
Can you share what ever happened with your washer? I am in the same boat. E6 error; I replaced the clutch assembly; back together and still get E6 error. Is there a way to RESET the error codes? Any information you are able to share would be much appreciated. Sincerely frustrated, MiLo

  8. Hey Bruce did you ever solve the problem? Having similar issue. just replaced the clutch. I can get it to start cycle, but E6 pops up during washing. I can usually get the unit to also just do a spin cycle, but I sometimes have to turn it on and off a few times. Just curious if your is similar… thanks

    Willie

  9. E6 error code- problem will not move from load adjusting to next cycle and e6
Code appears. Replaced clutch but still have e6 code . Any ideas?

  10. The LG top load, direct drive washer (Model WT1101CW) displays a E6 error code. When I press Start, it starts the “sensing load”. The wash plate rotates back and forth as it normally should. While the wash plate is moving, a rapid clicking noise can be heard near the lower right front part of the washer. It does about 4 cycles (3 seconds per cycle) of this clicking noise then shuts down and displays the E6 error code.

I’ve checked for debris (none), cleared the error code, waited to make sure the motor wasn’t overheated. Tried the spin cycle only and got the same clicking noise then error code.

Not sure what the issue is. Clutch ($175-$200) or power control board ($200-$250) related?

  11. We replaced motor, clutch, and position sender and still get a E6 code. What can we do to fix the problem?

  12. Have an LG direct drive clothes washer with the E6 code. Removed inside agitator and
Checked for debris but nothing. Still have code

Getting the E6 Error code. There is nothing jammed in the drum. What do I test next? I believe I read it could be a bad motor.

  14. Repairman told us the E-6 Error code ended up being a broken transmission. Repair would be close to the cost of a new unit and the machine is only 1 year old.

    LG are terrible machines

  15. Arthur bastardo

We are currently getting a E6 error code.
There is nothing jammed in the drum.
    And we tried resetting it.
We also waited to see if it was overheating.
The code is still popping up.
