Whirlpool Gold Refrigerator Temperature Control Panel Quick Fix

Using the Main Panel Controls

The refrigerator and freezer controls are located on the dispenser panel.
IMPORTANT: The display screen on the dispenser control panel will turn off automatically and enter “sleep” mode when the control buttons and dispenser pads have not been used for 2 minutes or more.
While in “sleep” mode, the first press of a control button will only reactivate the display screen without changing any settings.

Adjusting Refrigerator Freezer Temperature

For your convenience, your refrigerator and freezer controls are preset at the factory. When you first install your refrigerator, make sure that the controls are still set to the “mid-settings.” The factory recommended set points are 37°F (3°C) for the refrigerator and 0°F (-18°C) for the freezer.
Wait 24 hours before you put food into the refrigerator. If you add food before the refrigerator has cooled completely, your food may spoil.
NOTE: Adjusting the set points to a colder than recommended setting will not cool the compartments any faster.
If the temperature is too warm or too cold in the refrigerator or freezer, first check the air vents to be sure they are not blocked before adjusting the controls.
The preset settings should be correct for normal household usage.
The controls are set correctly when milk or juice is as cold as you like and when ice cream is firm.
Wait at least 24 hours between adjustments.
Recheck the temperatures before other adjustments are made.
To view and adjust the set points, press and hold the TEMP button for 3 seconds. When adjust mode is activated, adjusting information will appear on the display screen.

  1. Hi, my whirlpool gold fridge has the veg/fruit bins that ride on a full bottom rail. Can they be removed for cleaning? The boys spilled and it looks nasty and I can not get it clean just running water through the area. How would go about this?

  2. Whirlpool Gold Series Refrigerator
It is leaking water every 3-7 days and more frequently now.
It forms layer of ice on bottom of freezer.
The ice machine doesn’t make ice, this failed before the leaking started.

    Ken,
Whirlpool Gold refrigerator – coils have a cardboard sheet underneath
The cardboard under the coils may be a piece from shipping that was never removed.
Remove it to clean but observe if this creates any type of issue.

  4. I have a question about about cleaning the coils on a Whirlpool Gold. The coils have a cardboard sheet underneath them making it more difficult than it already is to clean!!!
Can this cardboard be removed and discarded or does it serve any purpose??

  5. Ice maker makes ice. Control panel functions all work. The paddle switch does not activate water dispenser or ice dispenser. Water pressure is good and connections are solid. Unit is 5 years old and has been working fine until now.

  6. I’m having a similar issue. You can reset the water filter by opening the water filter hatch in the top of the refrigerator. But the alarm is likely your refrigerator restarting every few minutes. Check for ice buildup in the back of the freezer.

  7. I have an alarm going off about evert 2 min. I think it is the door alarm but all three doors closed. I have opened and closed several times. The replace filter light is on. Could that be causing the alarm?

  8. I have water dripping for the top of my whirlpool gold refrigerator from the vent holes next to the water filter. I have had it for about 4 years with no problems.

  9. My ice maker is not making ice i have replaced the water filter freezer is cold just no ice it is a whirlpool Gold
