How to get dried glue out of carpet? I have spilled white Elmer’s glue on my carpet. The glue has dried and I cannot remove it. Is there a way to get the glue out of the carpet without damaging the carpet?
How To Remove Dried White Glue From Carpet
This type of glue will dissolve with hot water. The white glue made by Elmer’s is water soluble. (Elmer’s glue is PVA = polymer vinyl acetate) Which means hot or warm water will dissolve this type of glue that has spilled on your carpet. Use a warm wet cloth and a plastic scraper to remove the glue that has spilled. We do not recommend using any type of chemicals on your carpet as this may damage or discolor your carpet.
Items Needed To Remove Glue On Carpet:

How To Remove Hardened Glue On Carpet
- Use a large cloth or towel.
- Soak the cloth in hot water.
- Wring the water out of the cloth.
- Lay the cloth down on top of the carpet glue spill area.
- Press the cloth down and into the glue spill area.
- After 15 to 20 minutes the glue should soften up.
- Scrape the glue away using a plastic scraper or similar tool.
- Repeat this as many times as needed until all glue is removed.
- Once the glue is removed, dry the area and check for residue.
NOTE: If any glue residue is left over on the carpet, you can use a carpet cleaning machine to fully remove all the glue debris. If debris is still present from the glue, the carpet will feel hard and the color of the carpet in that area may be darker or discolored. You can attempt to use more of the hot water technique, however a carpet cleaning machine will scrub the area with warm water and cleaners to fully remove all the glue debris.
