If you are looking for a beginner woodworking project, this DIY wooden bench project is perfect. For under $20 you can buy the supplies and everything needed to make a sturdy and nice looking wood bench. The supplies cost around $20 but you will need to have some woodworking tools around to cut, drill, clamp, nail, screw, and wood stain this DIY wood bench. See below for a quick step-by-step way to do it yourself.
EASY BEGINNERS WOODWORKING PROJECT
Purchase 8 = 2 x 2 x 3 pieces of wood from your local home improvement store.
You can find each piece of wood for about a dollar each
Line the pieces up as shown in picture (flush on one side) and glue them together.
Once glued, clamp them together and let the wood glue dry
Once the glue is dry cut the side that was not flush so the wood is squared.
Next cut a 1 x 3 x 8 for the bench top sides. You can get this size of wood for $2 dollars from Lowe’s.
Use nails and wood glue to attach this wood to the bench top sides
Next make the bench legs for the bench out of 2 x 6’s.
You can find 2 x 6 wood for a few bucks in the scrap heap at your local home improvement store
Measure the height you want for the bench, then cut the wood.
Use some scrap 2 x 4’s to assist attaching the legs to the bench top.
You can drill pilot holes if you choose
Use glue and wood screws to attach the legs to the 2 x 4’s.
Bench legs are 2 = 2 x 6’s attached together
Use wood glue and then screw the legs in from the bottom.
At this point you can sand everything down to make it smooth
The bench is assembled and here is how it looks before adding the wood stain.
The DIY wood bench turned out nice and the cost was under $20 dollars.
Total dimensions of wood bench is = 3′ ft long x 1′ ft wide x 17″ in tall
