How To Fix A Refrigerator Freezer Door Handle That Is Loose
Most refrigerator and freezer door handles are held on with allen screws. If the door handle on your freezer or refrigerator are loose, you simply need to open the fridge or freezer door and tighten the small allen screws on the inner door handle.
(NOTE: Sometimes the allen screw may be tight, but the part the screw installs onto might be loose, so taking the door handle off to check is a good idea.)
To tighten the door handle you will need an allen wrench set as different refrigerator and freezer doors have different sized screws usually 3/32″ or 1/8″ allen wrench sizes.
How To Fix A Loose Refrigerator Door Drawer Handle:
- Get an allen wrench (usually 3/32″ or 1/8″) to use to tighten the screw on the fridge door.
(Most refrigerator door handle allen screw sizes are 3/32″ or 1/8″ – you may also need a 10 mm socket and ratchet) - Next, open the refrigerator door side that has the loose handle or damaged handle.
- Check the inner part of the door handle to find where the allen screws are located.
(HINT – Most refrigerator door handles have 2 screws holding them to the door) - Once the screws are located tighten the screws so the door handle is tight and secured to the refrigerator.
(If the screws were loose, they are now tight and the door handle is no longer loose – problem solved)
NOTE: If you are not replacing the door handle, continue to step number 8 - If replacing the refrigerator door handle, remove the screws holding the handle to the refrigerator door.
- Carefully twist the door handle and gently pull it away from the refrigerator.
- Order a new refrigerator door handle here, and install it the same way the old one was removed.
- Test the handle tightness by opening and closing the refrigerator door a few times.
- If the handle is still loose, tighten the screws on the handle to fully secure it.
- Problem solved! Keep the allen wrenches near the refrigerator just in case the doors become loose again or need to be replaced.

The mounting hardware that the freezer handle attaches to is loose. In other words, with the freezer drawer handle removed, the hardware attached to freezer door is loose and can NOT be tightened up. It appears to be a sheet metal screw that can NOT be tightened. Suggestions to fix a drawer handle?????
One side of the freezer handle on a French Door Kenmore came loose, revealing that the mounting pin had been broken off from the actual door structure. Repair ideas? Thanks
I have spent hours looking for info on this. I have GE refrigerator model GNE25JSKCFSS. The freezer door handle is loose. There is no set screw to loosen and the handle does not slide off. The moutning brackets are attached to the handle its self. The screw head is installed from the mounting bracket through a hole not a slot. Please help!
How do I tighten the refrigerator door handle. I have a GE Monogram, French door, counter depth ZWE 23ESHSS. It is a tubular style or maybe also called European style handle. It does have a set screw at the top and at the bottom. It’s slightly loose at the top where the handle meets the door front.
thank you,
Debbie
how to tighten pull out freezer door handle without set screws on Maytag bottom freezer door?
I’ve looked at several different sites that explain how to tighten the door handles on a Frigidaire side by side.
All of the explanations do not pertain to this Fridge as the door handles don’t have any external set screws or any kind of screws on the exterior of the handles to tighten them up.
The Model # is Frigidaire FFHS2622MWKA. S/N 443629996.
It appears to me that I have to remove the inner door seal and remove the plastic support for all the door shelves.
Any info you can provide me or direct me toward would be greatly appreciated.
